Team Work

Early one morning at Gol Kopjes, two of the famous Gol Kopjes brothers moved silently across the granite outcrops, each climbing a different rock to scan the surrounding plains. Rather than remaining side by side, they positioned themselves to cover different angles, constantly reading the landscape for any sign of movement.

For a few moments, their bodies and tails formed an almost perfect composition before they resumed the hunt. The scene revealed the remarkable coordination that makes male cheetah coalitions so successful. Working together allows brothers to defend larger territories, increase their hunting success and achieve a level of cooperation rarely seen among the world’s fastest land mammals.

Only a few minutes after this photograph was taken, the brothers successfully brought down a young wildebeest, confirming that the quiet coordination seen on the kopjes was already part of the hunt.
