The Face of Survival

Early one morning in Solio Game Reserve, a male white rhinoceros grazed undisturbed across the open plains. Lying flat on the ground less than three metres away, there was little to do but remain still and allow the encounter to unfold. Only after several seconds did the rhino finally lift its head and change direction, offering the opportunity for this close portrait. Encounters at such close range rarely last more than a minute before the animal catches human scent and quietly chooses another direction.

Photographed at such short range, the intention was not simply to record the animal’s features, but to reveal its extraordinary scale and presence. Every fold of skin, every scar and every texture speaks of a species that has changed little over millions of years, carrying the appearance of another age into the present.

At this distance, the rhinoceros is no longer defined by its horn, but by the extraordinary history written across its face.

All works are produced as archival pigment prints to museum standards.
Each print is personally reviewed and approved by me before release.
All prints are issued in strictly limited editions (from 5 to 15) and are signed and numbered.
Once an edition is sold out, it is never reprinted.
Each photograph is offered in different sizes depending on the work.
Each print is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.
