One afternoon in Solio Game Reserve, four white rhinoceroses crossed the open plains in a tight formation, with a fifth following a short distance behind. Their slow, determined pace and perfect alignment gave the impression of a patrol moving with quiet purpose, explaining the title of this photograph.
Photographed while crouching beside the vehicle, the distance between us gradually disappeared as the group continued walking directly towards us. Their behaviour remained completely calm, yet their size and the presence of five powerful animals approaching together commanded absolute respect. Only when they came within a few metres did our guide sharply close the vehicle door, gently encouraging them to alter their course.
Encounters like this are a reminder that the greatest moments in wildlife photography often come not from dramatic action, but from earning the privilege of sharing the same space with truly wild animals.
